With vacant shops in town centres at an all time high and more retailers going into administration retail landlords futures are looking bleak as the costs associated with empty units take their toll, so pop up shops are becoming a more popular choice.
Landlords can benefit quickly from the rental income and also have time to find a more permanent tenant before the unit is empty again. It is not unknown for the pop up trader to decide to extend their lease if trade is good.
It also has other benefits, such as making a high street more appealing by cutting down on the number of vacant units and drawing both retailers and shoppers back to the town centre.
These temporary lettings may not be the complete answer to the question about the future of the high street, but they certainly help improve the appeal.
