The Brighton Experience

The photographs were made up of the last 10 years worth of their popular Brighton calendar printed at twice the normal size.

Alongside the images there was large screen showing different short films shot around Brighton and a wishing tree giving people the opportunity to write their (Brighton based) wishes and hang them.

The experience was open throughout May.

Bicester Village pop up store for men

Bicester Village pop upDiscount retail outlet Bicester Village has been busy opening their new pop up store for men. Just ahead of London Collections Men, which is the first big menswear event in the capital, big names such as Oliver Spence, James Long and Jonathan Saunders are all available now at a discounted price.

Charlie Porter opened the store on Wednesday, making the very important point that retail is just as important as fashion shows when it comes to supporting our homegrown talent, because what’s the point of having fashion shows if no-one can actually buy the ruddy clothes?

The shop has been thoughtfully laid out with a rail to each designer so no need to rummage through a mix of clothing to find what you are looking for and will be open until June 27th.

Portas pilots

Mary PortasTowns including Margate, Stockport and Croydon have just been allocated £100,000 each and with the help of the Government’s “’High Street Tsar’ Mary Portas, they will use the money to liven up derelict shops, start new markets and advertise shopping areas.

More then 370 towns bid for the money and as part of the bid they had to include a brief demonstrating what they would use the money for 12 towns were then chosen by the Department for Local Government. This initiative comes after the review conducted by Ms Portas which was commissioned by the Government, which recommended a variety of initiatives to boost the high street including disincentives for landlords that leave shops empty.

Amongst the winning bids, Margate in Kent intends to put education and enjoyment at the heart of the town centre’s transformation with courses, “job club” services and pop up shops.
Ms Portas said: “I’ve been deeply touched by both the quality and creativity of the bids and the momentum Britain’s first town teams have generated in just a few short weeks.  It is now clearer to me than ever that Britain wants its town centres revitalised and the energy and accountability for that needs to rest with the people who live and do business there.”
