Toys R Us to pop up again for Christmas

Britian’s biggest toy retailer is to open a 15,000 sq ft pop up store in Carlisle for Christmas 2011.  The Toys R Us pop up shop, which will be open from 21st October until after Christmas, is creating 25 local jobs.  If the trading location proves successful, Toys R Us bosses will look at negotiating a longer lease in the city.

Toys R Us trialled the pop up shop concept in Kent and South Wales last year.  The Carlisle store, which is located at St Nicholas Retail Park, will stock all the major toy brands as well as video games and bikes.

Pop up boutique raises thousands for charity

Willow pop up boutique

Pop up boutique The Willow Wardrobe has raised more than £14,000 for charity after opening for just four days at a shopping centre in Walton.  The pop up shop was filled with quality new and pre-loved clothing, as well as pieces donated by designers including Alice Temperley, Whistles, Reiss and French Connection.

All proceeds from the pop up shop will go to the Willow Foundation.  The charity was set up by football legend Bob Wilson and his wife Megs in 1999 after they lost their daughter to cancer.  It provides support to people between the ages of 16 and 40 who are living with a life threatening illness.

Surrey-based stylist Sarah Jarrett, who headed up the pop up initiative, has been delighted with the outcome.

“I can’t believe the response, it’s been phenomenal. It’s such a simple concept, which has proved unbelievably successful”, she said.
